Every family member's access in PiggySize starts from a plain-language access level — Full partner, View only, or Own items only — that you can switch in a click. Need something more specific? Custom lets you set every permission by hand. This article shows you how to change what one family member can see and do.
Before you start
- Managing permissions is an owner action by default.
- The family member needs to already be added — and, to sign in, invited. See Invite your spouse or family to PiggySize.
Steps
- Open Settings (opens in a new tab) and select the Family tab.
- Find the family member, open the row's actions menu, and choose Manage Permissions.
- Pick an access level:
- Full partner — sees and edits everything in the household.
- View only — sees the whole household but can't make changes.
- Own items only — sees and manages just their own income, bills, and assets.
- For finer control, choose Custom and click each cell in the grid to cycle through Inherit (their role's default), Allow, and Deny.
- Click Save Permissions.
How it works
- Access levels are shortcuts. Full partner, View only, and Own items only each set a whole bundle of permissions for you, so you don't have to think feature by feature. Which levels appear depends on the member's role.
- The owner always has full access — there's nothing to configure for the owner.
- Custom reveals the full grid, where you set Create (add), Read (view), Update (edit), and Delete for each feature area individually.
- In the grid, Inherit means the member follows their role's default for that action — the button shows Inherit (Allow) or Inherit (Deny) so you can see which way it falls. Allow and Deny override that default just for this person. Only rows PiggySize lets owners override for that role appear; everything else follows the role default.
- If the person hasn't accepted their invite yet, the access level you pick is saved with the invite and applied automatically once they join.
Good to know
- Child accounts have hard limits no access level can change. Children only ever see items tied to their own family member record, and never see Snapshots, Milestones, or Retirement — and they're always blocked from the AI Assistant and Scenario Tester, regardless of the access level or Custom grid.
- Want your spouse to help manage family members? Open their Manage Permissions, choose Custom, and set the Family row's Update (and Create or Delete, if needed) to Allow — by default only the owner can do this.
- Access is per person — one child can have a different access level than another.
FAQ
What do the access levels mean?
Full partner sees and edits the whole household; View only sees everything but can't change anything; Own items only sees just their own income, bills, and assets. Custom lets you set each permission by hand.
Can I let my spouse manage the family list?
Yes — open their Manage Permissions, choose Custom, and set Family → Update to Allow (add Create or Delete too if you want them adding or removing members).
What does "Inherit" mean in the Custom grid?
The family member follows their role's default for that action instead of a custom override — the button shows whether that default is currently Allow or Deny.
Can a child see the retirement projection if I allow it?
No. Retirement, Snapshots, Milestones, the AI Assistant, and the Scenario Tester are always hidden from child accounts, no matter which access level you pick.
